It was Saturday, a perfect day to perform a 'prison break'. Have a break, have a Kit-Kat.
We set off at 8 in the morning, where the weather was chilly and perfect for a runaway. Hehe. Our first target was the infamous Toh Soon Cafe which is well known for their home-brew coffee and toasted bread. Having no idea the exact location of our destination, we follow the lead of the GPS. This application is absolutely invented for people like me. I remember when I was a kid, I had difficulties in making out the routes to any places. Yes, yes, now still. I never imagined that such an application would become real then. No fuss over getting loss now. Thanks to the growing technology. *grin
Alright, so we reached Campbell Street and the GPS lost it. I guess every technology has their own shortcomings. We got down the car to search for the place as Campbell Street is absolutely crowded in the morning from the people going to the market. To our dismay, it started to rain. Having no umbrella, we had to dodge from the rain under huge umbrellas from stall to stall. Our effort finally paid off when we finally spotted the cafe which is located in what i would consider an alley.
Despite the heavy rain and early hour, this small cafe was totally crowded with customers from all age range. I believed some are tourists as they brought along DSLR and snapping non-stop at everything. The popularity.
My breakfast. ^^ For a non coffee lover, I totally fell for the coffee here. The coconut jam and butter in the toasted Hailam bread were in a perfect proportion where non of the flavour overwhelm the other.
After a filling breakfast, we headed to my favourite bakery, the Continental Bakery. We arrived shortly after 10am where the breads are freshly baked from the oven. The moment we stepped into the bakery, the aroma of fresh pastry filled our nostrils.
They have yet to fill the rack with varieties of breads and buns. There is the bread cutter and wrapping machine behind.
Trays of fresh breads.
By then the rain stopped. What better than getting close to mother nature on a beautiful relaxing morning. Botanical Garden was our next stop. It had been quite some time since I last went for a walk there. My sedentary lifestyle. There was a huge reconstruction along the way there. Non of the roadside stalls as well as ice-cream carts were seen.
The lily pond
Cannon-ball tree
The air was fresh, the greenery was comfy, however, I got mosquito-bites all over by the time we left the garden. So much for my morning walk. We then planned to visit the Penang Reptile Farm, not known to us that they had shut down for quite some time. There goes my memory of my kindergarten graduation trip.
By the time, someone was hungry already. XP So we went for lunch at Queensbay Mall. Sakae Sushi was the selection of the day. Being all sweaty and tired from the morning walk, LOLX, anywhere air-conditioned is definitely good for me.
Still full from breakfast, my Unagi Temaki. We shared the Kakiage (mixed vegetable tempura) and Fried Lobster Maki. Yum yum. However, my cold green tea tasted of sesame oil. Yucks.
After lunch, I went home to see my beloved parents. Whee~ I honestly missed home a lot. Perhaps due to the coming final which is somehow exerting certain amount of pressure on me. The reward for going home (besides getting to see them), two bags of fruits. I am a fruit lover. Yay!!
I had craved for the Ice-Kacang at the hawker center near my housing area for quite some time. But the 'congested' car park loaded with cars from don't-know-where gave away my dream. Nevermind, there is a four-month holiday waiting. Since we planned to go for a movie at TGV, why not the Famous Penang Teochew Chendol instead? *chuckles
At Rm1.90 per bowl, this dessert is totally delish and affordable. The tauke is a live chendol making machine. The queue was never-ending.
After quenching out thirst, 1st Avenue here we come. The only reason I am going to 1st Avenue is for the TGV cinema. Perhaps the Redbox KTV is the second attraction. I was hoping to try the new beanieplex, but alas, the movie showing was Sucker Punch. So between Hop and Don't Go Breaking My Heart, we went for the latter. We walked around while waiting, and spotted a shop selling
Lomography camera. Soo cute!! I am gonna get my hand on one. Hiak hiak.
It was then time for movie, but we noticed we lost the tickets!! We tried searching for them at every possible places. Unfortunately, we didn't managed to find them. Bummer... If anyone actually picked out tickets and went for the movie, I hope they sat on prickled cushion.
Forget about that part, my turn to get hungry. Since we haven't gone to James Foo for a long time and I kinda missed their Chicken Corden Blue, we decided to have a western dinner. We arrived to notice that they have moved to the shop lot at the very corner with new furnishing. Too bad the place is fully seated and a few number of groups already standing there waiting for tables. I decided not to wait any longer. So we left. Again, nevermind, the four-month holiday is waiting.
The new James Foo Restaurant
Since Gurney Mall is nearby, we went there instead. After much considering over the eatery available, we opted for Xuan Xin Noodle House. Wise choice. Hehe
Honeydew and Sago
Fried Satay Sauce Beef Noodles
Lion Head Soup Noodles
I can hereby say that they are the best noodle house in town. Haha. Every mouthful of the fried noodles burst with flavours. Hehe
The day ended with us going to the seaside for a stroll and a small talk. Serene is much appreciated these days.
The day is lovely simply with you by my side. ♥
