When East Meet West . Vol 2: Bath

Part of information extracted from Wikipedia

The first city I visited in United Kingdom besides London was Bath. The city was first established as a spa with the Latin name Aquae Sulis (the waters of Sulis) by the Romans. They built baths and a temple surrounding hills of Bath. Much later during the Georgian era, it became popular as a spa town. I guess this was how the city got its name? Haha

In the train heading towards Bath

Where were we? XD

Since we arrived early and the pre-booked tour to Stonehenge was not starting any sooner, we conducted our very own city sightseeing first.

Bath Abbey

King Bladud's pig

A local bike. Haha. Cute basket

UK sightseeing bus

Walking on the street. Notice the white figure?

He was no other than Ah Bui, the assassin. Sensing the surrounding with his sensitive nose

We then entered Parade Gardens which is situated by the River Avon. It is a nice place for picnics, overlooking Pulteney Bridge and the weir. Entrance is free to Bath residents, so since we are not, we had to pay.

Beautiful, bright blue sky

Pulteney Bridge

River Avon

Can you stop sniffing him?! Lets look on to the bridge at the back

There will be bands playing in the hut behind us during evenings

The floral display

'We are the future'

King Edward VII Memorial (Angel of Peace)

After we got back from witnessing Stonehenge, we were lucky that there was no queue so we proceeded on to The Roman Baths in no time.

Overview

This part above the level of the pillar bases is a later reconstruction. Once there was an arch roof as tall as the tallest building behind (Bath Abbey)

Carvings of Roman emperors and governors of Roman Britain on the terrace overlooking the Great Bath

Overview of the Roman Baths

Head of Sulis-Minerva. Minerva was called the 'goddess of a thousand works'. In Britain, she was conflated with the local wisdom goddess, Sulis

The source of the water

This very nice man in ancient Roman costume

The water in the bath was quite hot. The water bubbled up near the heat source, the hot spring. However its such a shame the water was in a highly contaminated state

Pump Room Restaurant. You can have a taste of spa water for £1/cup

The British monarchy

Dinner at Sally Lunn's. The oldest house in Bath c.1482 and home of the world famous Sally Lunn bun

Starter of homemade vegetable soup and the famous buttered Sally Lunn's bun. The red wine came with the set. Ah Bui was eyeing the food from behind

Ah Bui the porkish chef

The Duck's order. I can just remember it was pork loin

My choice of chicken breast with white wine sauce

Jia Jia and her chicken dish. Can't remember what it was either
